Saint Isaac the Syrian – Ascetical Homilies – Homilies 31-68
Vol. II
The complete Ascetical Homilies of St. Isaac the Syrian is now accessible to the romanian reader thanks to the translation of this volume, which includes Homilies 31-68, continuing and concluding the series of Homilies 1-30 of the first volume.
Along with the homilies translated from the Greek version, the 13 homilies preserved only in the Syriac manuscript tradition are also translated in romanian. Also in this volume, the romanian text is placed in parallel with the old greek version or, as the case may be, with the syriac text, for the homilies preserved only in the original.
The extensive notes and commentaries that accompany the text provide today’s reader with the explanations needed to understand an ancient text such as the Isachian, and also reveal its multiple and surprising connections with the syriac and greek philocalic traditions. Five texts attributed to St. Isaac, but by a different author, are translated in the appendix. The volume contains three indexes: scriptural, thematic, and of patristic and classical quotations.
By its structure and content, this edition is an ideal tool for academic study and for the choir, for personal reading and prayer life.
