It is noteworthy the congeniality between the patristic movement in theological circles and the spirituality to which Elder Joseph bore witness. In the life of Elder Joseph there would follow a period when a veritable band of disciples would gather around him, who would carry on the spiritual legacy of the hesyhast faith. The names of the disciples, among whom we should mention only Ephrem the Philothelite and Joseph of Vatopedi, are linked both to the perpetuation of the spirituality of the Hesyhastic order and to a genuine restoration of the monastic experience on Mount Athos, through the numerous disciples who became abbots of several monasteries.
