St. Gregory of Nyssa
Homilies on the Feasts of the Lord
“Then by death we fell from life, now death is swallowed up by Life. Then by shame we hid ourselves under the fig tree, now by glory we approach the wood of Life. Then by disobedience we were cast out of heaven, now by faith we enter Paradise. Again the fruit of life is our delight in our possession. Again, the fountain of heaven, divided from the Gospels into four rivers, waters the whole face of the Church, so that the courts of our souls, which the sower prepared to sow the word of doctrine, are made drunk, and are filled with the daughters of virtue.
