The Disciples of Evagrius, Philocalical Chapters

The Philocalic Chapters edited bilingually in this volume come from some indirect and distant disciples of Abba Evagrius, having been written in 5th century Palestine. Found today only in a Greek Athenian manuscript, discovered in 1978, these Chapters were intensively used by St. Maxim the Confessor in the writing of his famous Chapters on Love.
The translation, now realized for the first time in Romanian, is accompanied by a large corpus of notes and commentaries, which clarify terms and ideas in the Chapters and highlight the links between the text and the great Eastern theological and philocalical tradition, attesting to the way in which pre-Evagrian and Evagrian thought and writings, from which our author claims to be descended, have been assimilated, reorganized and developed in the most diverse epochs and contexts, up to the present day. Structured in this way, the book is also an initiation into the rich and perennial universe of the Philocalia.
