Waiting for God. On sickness, suffering and death
In order to suppress sin, God has given man several gifts to enable him to put away sin. One of the most important of these gifts is sickness. Sickness is a sign that unites me to God, but when I indulge in my sickness, I forget the true God. Sickness will always haunt us, but we must see it as children of God, and not as men of this world.
This graceless, demon-possessed life must come to an end, the world must pass away, and the grace of God must come, that the eternal, unchangeable grace may come. That is, the prolongation of this life is of this world, while the end is natural and exalts to that which is supernatural, in that it causes it unites us with God Himself and brings us into the heavenly Bridegroom’s treasure, where there is no sorrow, nor pain, nor sighing.
Therefore, the best thing for us to do is first of all to love that last moment of our life, for it will be the moment when we will encounter the thing for which we have longed all our life, which is love.
