Hieromonk Agapie Corbu
from reading the Scripture to prayer of the heart
The present volume brings together studies on patristic biblical exegesis as well as new testament exegesis based on principles drawn from patristic writings. The exegesis of saints such as Ignatius Theophorus, Dionysius the Areopagite, Gregory of Nyssa, Isaac the Syrian and Nikodemus of the Holy Mountain is rigorously analyzed, the results being synthesized in a corpus of biblical hermeneutical principles that presuppose and integrate all aspects of ecclesial life: dogmatic, philocalic, liturgical, pastoral, catechetical. In all these ways, the book offers the reader a unified and traditional vision of the interpretation of Scripture in the Church and of the Bible’s connection with the spiritual life, especially with the prayer of Jesus.
